Google App Activity Data Collection Class Action

Not open for claims yet · Published May 12, 2026 · Updated August 11, 2026

Am I eligible for the Google lawsuit?

You’re likely covered if you had a Google account and turned off or paused Web & App Activity (or the supplemental sub-setting) at least once between July 1, 2016 and September 23, 2024. Membership comes from Google’s own records — notices were emailed to affected accounts. You don’t need to do anything to stay in the class, and there is nothing to file yet. The class period is July 1, 2016 to September 23, 2024.

What is this lawsuit about?

This class action alleged that Google continued to collect mobile "app activity" data from users’ devices even when they had turned off or "paused" the Web & App Activity (WAA) or Supplemental Web & App Activity (sWAA) settings — collected through Google code (the Firebase and Google Mobile Ads SDKs) embedded in non-Google apps such as Uber, Venmo and Instagram. On September 3, 2025, a federal jury found Google liable and awarded over $425 million to two certified classes. Google has asked the court to vacate that verdict and may appeal, so no money is available yet. If the award survives, class members will be notified and given instructions on how to claim.
