What is this lawsuit about?

Proposed class actions filed in California federal court allege Google's advertising technology transmitted US consumers' persistent identifiers, IP addresses and other device-level information to Temu, Baidu and other China-based companies whenever Google's tracking code ran on a participating website. The suits claim this violated the Department of Justice's Bulk Sensitive Data Rule, which took effect in April 2025 and restricts large-scale transfers of Americans' sensitive data to entities tied to countries of concern. The litigation is at an early stage — no class has been certified and there is no claims process yet.
