What is this investigation about?

In February 2026 the California Superior Court in San Francisco coordinated twelve lawsuits against OpenAI into a single proceeding, In re: ChatGPT Product Liability Cases (JCCP No. 5431). The plaintiffs allege ChatGPT is unreasonably dangerous and caused psychological harm — reinforcing delusional beliefs, endorsing suicidal ideation, and contributing to users' mental deterioration — and that OpenAI rushed the product to market without adequate safety testing of its "sycophantic" design. Claims include wrongful death, negligence and strict liability. This is an attorney-advertising intake handled by Morgan & Morgan and is not a settled class action.
